Abstract of Topic

Wound Healing Principles, Assessment & Management
Abstract:
Wound healing is a complex physiological process involving overlapping phases of hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. Understanding the principles that govern this process is essential for effective clinical management, especially in chronic and complex wounds.
This session provides an integrative overview of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying wound healing, highlighting both physiological repair and factors that impede healing such as infection, ischemia, diabetes, and biofilm formation. Emphasis will be placed on a structured assessment approach that includes wound bed evaluation, tissue viability, exudate characterization, and surrounding skin condition.
Participants will be introduced to current evidence-based management strategies, including advanced wound dressings, negative pressure therapy, and biologics, along with practical insights into selecting interventions tailored to individual wound types and patient profiles. The role of nutrition, systemic disease control, and interdisciplinary collaboration will also be underscored in achieving optimal outcomes.
By the end of the session, attendees will gain a comprehensive framework for assessing and managing wounds using a patient-centered, evidence-informed approach aimed at promoting faster healing and minimizing complications.
Learning Objectives:
· Understand the phases and biological mechanisms of wound healing.
· Identify key factors affecting wound healing and delayed repair.
· Apply a structured method to wound assessment and classification.
· Integrate best practices in wound management, including advanced modalities.
· Recognize the importance of holistic patient care in chronic wound scenarios.
